I’m a hypnotist. I’ve worked with dependency clients since founding Vancouver Hypnotherapy in 2007. I’ve subsequently moved on from there leaving the company in the very capable hands of Kary Blaney, an excellent and accomplished hypnotherapist.
I was not always a hypnotist. For many years I worked for Associated Press in Africa as a press photographer. I was, however, active in many aspects of journalism, including working on The Sunday Times, BBC Africa, as a UN Information Officer on emergency operations in the war in both Sudan and Somalia, and working for the Guardian, in London. I also served as Information Officer to Commissioner Rossil Jager of the Orange Free State during the 1994 election in South Africa.
Biographical details such as this rarely tell much of the story, though. For example, I am an experienced pilot, with time on small aircraft, and some not so small aircraft. I love sailing and I’ve completed numerous Round The Island races in the UK, participated in Cowes Week more times than I can remember and have an enduring love of choral music and poetry.
Not to put to fine a point on it, “I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.”
Your work with me will be about you, though. You’ve got all you need about me. Anyone going through addiction, anxiety or the struggle of an eating disorder is fighting battles of their own. I’ve sailed that sea with hundreds of clients, and successfully helped them find their way back to a safe harbor.
At my age one tends to have covered a few miles. I hope I bring some of the experience gained when covering those miles to my addictions clients in a way that will impact them positively.
